Tip #1: Don’t plant your cat grass too densely

By placing too many cat grass seeds in a small area, air will not be able to circulate properly between them, creating a great breeding ground for molds. Make sure to spread out the seeds, and never have multiple layers on top of one another. Once the grass is fully grown, regularly move it outside to provide proper air circulation and allow excess water to evaporate.

Tip #2: Avoid overwatering

To prevent molds from invading your cat grass, make sure not to overwater. If you bought a pot of cat grass from the store, make sure to only water the grass when 1/4 of the total amount of soil in the pot is completely dry. If you bought the Catit Senses Grass Planter and the seeds are still in the sprouting phase, use a spray bottle to mist them rather than watering them to prevent mold formation. Even when the cat grass is fully grown, we recommend a combination of misting and adding water rather than just pouring water in the tray each time.

Tip #3: Provide your cat grass with plenty of light

Indirect light, whether it’s sunlight or artificial light, naturally helps prevent mold from growing. Place your pot in a spot with plenty of light but watch out with windowsills. After all, cats will be cats.

Tip #4: Remove debris and dead leaves

Did some leaves of grass die? Make sure to remove them, as they help create the perfect environment for mold to grow in. Also, dust off the grass regularly or place the grass outside to remove unwanted spores. This will allow your cat to enjoy their grass for much longer.
