Kittens are born with fully functional claws

YOU’RE RIGHT!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

While it sounds unbelievable, kittens are born with needle-sharp claws. For the first 3 to 4 weeks of their life, they can’t even retract them, so they better be careful not to hurt their mum or their siblings.

The kittens from the same litter can have different fathers

YOU’RE RIGHT!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

While each kitten only ever has one dad, it doesn’t have to be the same dad as their litter mates. A female cat can mate with more than one male in a short period of time, which is how different litter mates can end up with different dads.

Every kitten is born with dark brown eyes

YOU’RE RIGHT!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

Just like babies, kittens are born with blue eyes. That’s because the pigment in their iris hasn’t developed yet. As they grow, the kittens’ true eye color will slowly appear.

Kittens can purr as soon as they’re born

YOU’RE RIGHT!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

It takes newborn kittens some time to learn how to purr. Some kittens can purr when they’re just a few days old, while others only learn to purr after a few weeks. Some cats just like to purr more than others, and that’s okay.

Newborn kittens cannot regulate their body temperature

YOU’RE RIGHT!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

Newborn kittens are terrible at regulating their own body temperature and rely on their mum and litter mates to keep warm. Those kitten cuddle puddles are not just for comfort, they’re also a clever survival strategy.
