Drinking fountains reimagined
Traditional pet drinking fountains, whether made from stainless steel or BPA-free plastic, always have a pump and cable inside the water reservoir. Despite its small size, the pump is one of the most important parts to keep clean to help prevent bacteria from building up. Yet its many small components and hard-to-reach areas can also make it the most difficult.
Luckily, pumpless technology offers a clever solution. But a drinking fountain without a pump sounds a bit like a car without an engine. How could the water possibly keep flowing? Well, the pump has not disappeared completely. It has evolved into something much more convenient.
So, where is the pump?
In a traditional pet drinking fountain, the pump and its cable sit inside the water reservoir. Pumpless technology turns this familiar design on its head by replacing the conventional pump with electronics housed in a separate base underneath the fountain.
Only a small propeller remains inside the reservoir to keep the water flowing. This propeller is held by a shaft beneath the reservoir, which fits into an opening in the electronic base. Just as in any electric motor, a magnetic field drives the propeller from below, without any electronic components or cables sitting in your cat’s water. Mystery solved!
Less fiddling, more flowing
If you have ever cleaned a traditional pet drinking fountain, you may have found yourself removing the pump, wrestling with its cable and trying to reach all those fiddly little corners.
With a pumpless fountain, the entire reservoir simply lifts away from the electronic base. There’s no pump coming along for the ride and no cable to work around. Just take the reservoir to the sink, clean each part thoroughly and put everything back in place.
Pumpless fountains also stop automatically when you lift the reservoir from the base and restart when you return it. That means less time spent taking a pump apart for thorough cleaning and more time for important things, such as admiring your freshly cleaned masterpiece while your cat completely ignores your efforts.
A clever idea for cats and their humans
Many cats are attracted to gently flowing water. A drinking fountain can offer them a fresh, appealing place to drink, but keeping it clean is naturally a job for their devoted human.
By keeping the electronics and wiring separate from the washable reservoir, pumpless technology makes that job much more straightforward. The Catit PIXI Easy to Clean Fountains are a great example: their reservoirs lift away from their electronic bases, making them remarkably easy to clean.
Fresh, flowing water for your cat and a fountain that is easier for you to maintain. Sometimes, the smartest ideas are also the simplest!
