The Singapura

With adult females weighing no more than 4-6 lbs (1.8-2.7 kg) the Singapura is the smallest domestic cat breed. While they are only about half the size of an average housecat, Singapuras make up for their size with their spunky personality. These pint-sized kitties are highly intelligent and full of energy. They love to climb, explore, and play whenever they’re awake.

The American curl

Did you spot a small cat with unusual ears? You might have encountered an American curl. These cats’ ears curl away from their face, toward the center of the back of their head. American Curls are naturally small in size, weighing in at 5-10 lbs (2.3-4.5 kg), and don’t reach maturity until they are 2-3 years of age. This cat can have either long or short hair, and has an energetic, playful personality. While not being true lap cats, American Curls love to be around humans and are rarely shy.

The Cornish rex

The Cornish Rex is a sleek kitty often referred to as the Greyhound of the cat world. Known for their soft, curly coat, Cornish Rex cats are unique in that they only have down hairs, lacking the awn and guard hairs found on most cats. These compact bundles of joy typically weigh between 6 and 10 pounds (2.7–4.5 kg) and stand about 8 to 12 inches (20.3–30.5 cm) tall. While the Cornish Rex adores their humans, they’re not your typical lap cat. Instead, they prefer to stay active and engaged, often enjoying activities like going for walks on a lead!

The Devon rex

Meet the cat that really looks out of this world – the Devon Rex. Its broad head and large ears that sit low on the head make the Devon Rex look a little like a super cute alien. While at 6-9 pounds the Devon Rex tends to weigh slightly less than the Cornish rex, the Devon rex tends to be slightly larger (10-12 inches/25.5-30.5 cm). Devon rex cats are full of life and enthusiasm and tend to retain their kitten-like energy for their entire lives. These curly-coated cats thrive on your attention and when they’re finally finished being up to no good, they’ll happily curl up on your warm lap.

The Abyssinian

The Abyssinian cat looks as though it just stepped out of the wild, with its sleek, exotic appearance and graceful movement. This striking feline typically weighs between 8–12 lbs (3.5–5.4 kg) and stands about 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) tall. Known for their boundless curiosity, Abyssinians love to be involved in everything you do and will often “supervise” your daily activities. With their high energy levels, these cats need plenty of interactive playtime to stay happy, and to keep them from turning your belongings into climbing frames or scratching posts.
