How UV-C works
No matter how hard you try, sooner or later, saliva, dirt particles, and airborne pathogens will end up in your cat’s water. If enough of them inhabit your cat’s fountain, your cat could get ill. UV-C light prevents any viruses, bacteria, or mold from multiplying. This means that if any pathogens get into your cat’s water, the UV-C unit inside of the drinking fountain will help to clarify it.
Your cat won’t even know it’s there
The UV-C rays don’t affect the temperature or taste of your cat’s water, nor do they reach outside the fountain. As the UV-C clarifier in our Catit PIXI Smart Fountain sits in the center of the reservoir’s back wall, inside a plastic casing, the range of the UV-C rays is perfectly controlled and optimized to obtain the best water quality possible. At the source, the fountain’s UV-C clarifier has an intensity of 245 μW/CM2. Lab tests confirm that at 10 cm from the unit, no rays can be detected (0 μW/CM2), which ensures that your cat doesn’t get exposed to any level of UV-C. So even though the UV-C light does an amazing job, your cat will never know it’s there.

Certifications as cherry on the cake
At Catit, we take a lot of pride in our products. The UV-C clarifier used in the Catit PIXI Smart Fountain adheres to the strictest norms posed by the USA’s National Sanitation Foundation. In addition, the UV-C clarifier has been certified by SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, to effectively reduce Escherichia coli bacteria. (Study conducted in December 2020, measured in 2 liters of water after 60 minutes.) You can rest assured: your cat and their drinking water are in great hands!
