Your cat is curious

Cats are naturally curious animals, so they may be intrigued by the sounds, smells, and movements that occur in the bathroom. Cats just love exploring spaces and investigating new smells, especially when the door to that space is closed, which can lead them to follow you into the bathroom.

Your cat wants your attention

Cats are social animals and most of them enjoy being around their humans. Following you into the bathroom can be a way for your feline friend to seek attention and companionship. After all, they know you’ll be sitting in a small room for a while, with nothing better to do than giving them pets and belly rubs… if you’re not too busy on your phone, that is.

Your cat is intrigued by water

Even when you’re not sitting on the throne but rather going to the bathroom to take a shower, your cat may insist on joining you there. Many cats are strangely fascinated by water falling from the showerhead, running down glass walls, and creating watery trails they can follow with their paws. Baths are interesting to them too, as they know you won’t be going anywhere soon, giving them the perfect opportunity to demand your attention. Some cats even enjoy drinking from the faucet or playing with dripping water.

The bathroom has become part of your cat’s routine

Cats are creatures of habit, so if you use the bathroom around the same time every day, following you has simply become part of your cat’s daily routine as well. Cats love consistency, and you might have noticed that your cat likes to be part of other habits of yours too, such as:

  • Waking up
  • Cooking
  • Brushing your teeth
  • Getting ready for bed

Your cat feels safe around you

Cats sometimes seek out their favorite human when looking for comfort and security. So, your cat following you into the bathroom may well be a sign that they feel safe around you. While your cat won’t have to fear predators, there are still other scary things in your home they might seek protection from, such as obnoxious dogs, hyperactive kids, or simply the good old vacuum cleaner.
