Rinse and clean before use

Our Catit drinking fountains are made from BPA-free materials and barely have any scent to them, even when they’re brand-new. Therefore, your cat should get used to their new water source easily. To make sure the fountain is 100% spic and span when you give it to your cat, thoroughly rinse the filter under the tap and clean the rest of the fountain with dish soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Skip the filter part for now if you are planning on letting your cat get used to the fountain without the pump running.

Let your cat explore with the fountain turned off

If your cat is reluctant of new items, we suggest introducing the fountain to your feline while the device is turned off. Once you think your cat is used to this new object and ready for some delicious water, plug in the fountain. Don’t do so while your cat is standing near the fountain though, as the sudden flow of water may startle them.

Be patient and use rewards

Don’t force your cat to go near the fountain. Felines are naturally curious and will sooner or later approach the new device anyway. Place treats at the base of the fountain as an incentive for your brave kitty. In addition, make sure to keep a second water source present for as long as your cat won’t drink from their new fountain.

Don’t place the fountain near the food

Cats are picky drinkers and having to drink near their food bowl is a big no-no for them. In nature, inedible parts of a cat’s prey can contaminate nearby water sources, so ignoring any water sources that can be found near their food bowl is instinctual behavior for your feline. The solution is simple: move your cat’s drinking fountain a few feet away from their food.

Silence is golden

In our Catit PIXI fountains, the pump hangs suspended from the lid, which makes for an ultra-silent operation. If you have a different type of fountain, take into account that wooden surfaces worsen the noise your pump makes. If you cannot place the fountain on a tiled floor, consider using a Catit Placemat. In addition, fill up the fountain high enough with water and clean the pump regularly to reduce any noise.

Use different waterflow options

As cat experts, we know how picky felines can be. That is why all Catit drinking fountains offer multiple waterflow options. The Flower Fountains allows you to change between long streams, a bubbling top, or a gentle flow, while Catit PIXI fountains feature a drinking bowl at front, and can be used with or without a spout. Switch things around to discover which option your cat likes best. Don’t turn off the fountain too often so your cat can get used to the water running all the time.
