Kittens are born blind and deaf.

YOU’RE RIGHT!

Born with their eyes and ear canals closed, kittens are brought into the world completely blind and deaf. This makes them very fragile as they must rely almost entirely on their instincts and the help of their mother. Once the kittens are 7 – 10 days old, the babies will open their eyes for the first time, though their vision will remain poor for another few weeks. At the age of between 10 and 14 days, the kittens’ ear canals open. At that point, they’re ready to see and hear everything that goes on around them!

SORRY, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG…

Most kittens change eye color.

YOU’RE RIGHT!

All kittens are born with stunning baby blue eyes, though you will only be able to observe these once your kitten is 7 – 10 days old. A few weeks later, when your kitten is 6 – 7 weeks of age, the melanin responsible for a cat’s eye color starts producing, and your furbaby’s eye color will change. Some cats – mostly white felines or pointed breeds – retain their original blue color, but the vast majority of all adult cats has yellow, green, copper, orange, amber, or hazel eyes.

A kitten’s first year is equivalent to 7 human years.

YOU’RE RIGHT!

A kitten’s initial year is no joke. During these 365 days, kittens grow and mature as much as humans do in 15 years, transforming from goofy, little babies to independent, vigorous cats. To put it in human terms: that’s infancy, toddlerhood, preschool years, early school years, and puberty all in one year. Good luck, momma cat!

Kittens are even pickier eaters than adult cats.

YOU’RE RIGHT!

It should come as no surprise that cats are fussy eaters, and although there are some methods to help adult cats overcome this annoying behavior, it takes considerable time and effort. Kittens, on the other hand, are still open to trying new things, which is why you should offer them a varied diet and expose them to new tastes from a relatively young age. That way, your cat may grow up less picky when it comes to their food.

Kittens can get pregnant.

YOU’RE RIGHT!

Bearing in mind that cats are considered kittens until they are one year old, this statement is correct. Cats can get pregnant from the tender age of 5 – 6 months. However, since our feline friends haven’t reached their adult size at that age yet, their bodies may not be ready to support a litter, no matter how much you like the idea of having more cute kitties in the house. So… spay or neuter your cat as soon as possible to avoid any risks!
